Terraced orchards under Rakaposhi's shadow
Hunza is the valley most people picture when they picture the north — poplar-lined roads, apricot orchards stacked on terraces, and the Karakoram Highway threading through it all beneath Rakaposhi's summit. Karimabad and Altit make good bases, each with centuries-old forts you can walk up to before breakfast.
