Gateway to K2 and the Karakoram giants
Skardu sits in a wide desert valley ringed by some of the highest peaks on Earth. It's the launch point for K2 base camp treks, but the town itself — with Shangrila and Upper Kachura lakes nearby and the old Skardu Fort above the river — is worth two or three days on its own.
